ORGANIC ELECTRON DONORS
or the Art of Reduction

BROGGI TEAM

Welcome - Bienvenue

About Us

The BROGGI team is specialized in the study of electron donors with totally organic structures. Organic electron donors (OEDs) are reducing agents capable of spontaneous single- (SET) or double-electron transfer (DET) to organic substrates under mild and homogeneous conditions. We explore new OED structures and their reactivity as reducers. We also improve their attractiveness by designing stable latent precursors and developing unprecedented applications, such as the transformation of nucleosides or the initiation of polymerization reactions

The BROGGI team is part of the Radical Pharmaco-chemistry (PCR) group, managed by Prof. P. Vanelle (Hospital Pharmacist, specialist in anti-infectious agents). PCR’s research program is centered on the pharmacomodulation of compounds of therapeutic interest by the mean of metal catalyzed and electron transfer-assisted reactions.

The PCR group is part of the Institute of Radical Chemistry ICR, directed by Dr. Didier Gigmes. The ICR was recently labelled by the french High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education HCERES as a major actor in the domain of radical chemistry with teams of an excellent level of scientific production and international influences.

Dr. Julie Broggi – Team Leader
Associate professor at Aix Marseille University

My research focus on the synthesis and use of nitrogen-containing heterocycles with σ- and π-donor properties. During my career, I worked on σ-donor N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) as ligands for new organometallic complexes and use them in catalysis. Since 2012, I develop my own thematic dealing with aminoethylenes, the dimeric form of carbenes, used as organic π-electron donors (OED). I explore (1) new OED structures and (2) their reactivity as reducers. I improve their attractiveness by designing stable latent precursors and developing unprecedented applications in nucleoside or polymer chemistry.
